DEFINITION
This discipline is under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Aims at preparing the managerial staff able to set up the coordinated procedures on medical, social, educative and professional levels in order to help the handicapped person to use or regain the use of the affected function or, at least, to use at maximum his remaining capacities. It is not destined for the students who are themselves handicapped.

ADMISSION
The access to the first year of the first cycle is possible through one of the two following modes:

a) The academic orientation system (Baccalaureate all sections). It has to be said that, in addition to the score, the access to this discipline is conditioned by the success in an aptitude test.

b) The competitive orientation examination. This mode is open to the students who have had their baccalaureate in the two years preceding the examination. It comprises the following tests:

  • Written test : General culture.

  • Oral test : individual interview.

  • Oral test : Group interview.

Psychological balance, Aptitude to carry out expression activities, physical aptitude, creativity.

LENGTH OF STUDIES

The studies last two years at the end of which a polyvalent educator diploma is delivered.

It is possible to pursue the studies two more years. The access to the second cycle is conditioned by the success in a competitive examination open to the holders of a polyvalent educator diploma having been working one year at least in an institution for the promotion of the handicapped or the social maladjusted. A diploma is delivered at the end of this second cycle in one of the following specialities:

  • Taking in charge.

  • Readaptation techniques.

  • Equipment techniques.

The regular presence in the courses, practical works and training periods is compulsory.

EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Continuous control and a two-session examinations at the end of the academic year : main session and control session.

The final results are based on the general average obtained in the teaching modules. To succeed, the student should obtain a general average equal or superior to 10/20.

To succeed in the second year's examinations, the student should obtain a general average equal or superior to 10/20 in the teaching modules, the practical trainings and the training's report.

FIELDS OF STUDY

  • Pedagogy, psychology, biology, medical sciences, prevention and first aid, methodology, law...

  • Guided and practical works : readaptation techniques (Braille's method), orientation and movement techniques, senses' development, signs language.

  • Educative and expression techniques : manual activities, audio-visual activities, vocal and musical education, physical education and sports.

  • Trainings in social and educative establishment :

                  - first year : 10 weeks on 2 periods.

                  - second year : 12 weeks on 2 periods.

Socio-educative institutions for health and readaptation of the social maladjusted in public and associative sectors.

ACQUIRED SKILLS
Mastering of education and communication techniques, social and educative insertion.

Created in 1983, The Institute has 32 teachers at its service. Until June 1997, The Institute had delivered 251 diploma. In 1996/1997, the total number of students was: 77. In its library, one can find some 3000 titles in education, psychology and pedagogy fields.
All the students receive automatically a scholarship
